Coastal Pediatric Associates is monitoring the Coronavirus pandemic very closely and remain committed to ensuring the safety and welfare of our patients, families, staff and community.  Out of an abundance of caution, we are changing our daily operations to minimize the potential for viral transmission.  Fully embracing  CDC and DHEC guidelines, our teammates are experts in appropriate health-care hygiene techniques.   We are also encouraging and coaching our patients in the best ways to practice “social distancing.” In addition, we are making the following changes:

  1. If your child is scheduled for a well check and, has any of the following signs or symptoms of illness, including fever, cough, runny nose, then we will reschedule the appointment.
  2. We are also offering telehealth appointments for appropriate types of patient encounters.  These include, but are not limited to interval ADHD visits, behavioral health visits, encounters required for medication refills, and other visits not requiring physical examination or laboratory work. Call our office to discuss at 843-573-2535.
  3. In addition to offering telehealth, our CPA team is now offering Coastal Curbside Care at our West Ashley office. This service will be available for patients experiencing fever, cough, or any respiratory concerns. In doing so, our patients and parents can comfortably wait and be seen by one of our CPA providers all while remaining in their car.
  4. In  order to maintain a healthy and safe environment, we are designating certain locations and/or certain appointment times for well checks. We will be contacting patients with currently scheduled appointments to with specific details
  5. If your child is sick and needs to be seen by a provider, we will be directing you to our “sick” office locations.  In an effort to encourage “social distancing,” we ask that you stay in your vehicle until a room is ready for you.

The mission of CPA is to serve the children of our community. We are working hard to provide the best care for all of our patients in the safest environment. Please be patient with us we navigate the new waters. We appreciate your trust and look forward to serving you and your family during this difficult time.

·       This service will be available for patients experiencing fever, cough, or any respiratory concerns and is dedicated to patients who are sick.

·       Caregivers and patients will pull into a tent where the entire appointment will take place. Our patients and parents can comfortably wait and be seen by one of our CPA providers all while remaining in their car.

·       Tents are set up similar to an exam room including having the same equipment on hand as the inside clinic exam rooms have available.

NEWBORNS:  Recognizing the vulnerability of our youngest patients, all newborns visits will be conducted at our Breastfeeding Centers in Mount Pleasant and Summerville. These offices will strictly see newborns up to 2 months of age.

CLEANING PROCEDURES: At Coastal Pediatric Associates, our utmost concern is keeping all office areas sanitary for our patients, family members, and our team. We have stringent daily sanitization procedures that we continue to follow along with additional deep and frequent cleaning of all public and team areas.

KEEPING YOU SAFE: We do continue to see the normal concerns during this time of year including, influenza, stomach bugs, and winter colds. And while kids are not the most vulnerable group for this virus, we still recommend keeping them home to protect the spread of the virus to those who are most at risk. For this reason, we will continue to make additional provisions in the next few days and weeks in order to continue serving our patients in a clean and safe environment.

FAMILY MEMBERS: We strongly encourage additional family members to stay home during this time. We do understand that this is not always possible so we thank you in advance for doing what you can to limit in office visits to the patient and one guardian. Please do not bring anyone in our office who has been in close contact with anyone who has a fever, cough or has been exposed to the virus. These measures will help decrease the overall number of people in our offices and will help protect your family and our team. CPA team members will screen everyone who enters our buildings to ensure a healthy environment.

TESTING: We are not testing for the Coronavirus (COVID-19). If your child has symptoms or you think they have been exposed, we will direct them to a local resource for testing.

You can practice healthy habits at home, school, and play to help protect against the spread of COVID-19:

  • Cough or sneeze into a tissue or your elbow. If you sneeze or cough into a tissue, throw it in the trash right away.
  • Keep your hands out of your mouth, nose, and eyes. This will help keep germs out of your body.
  • Wash your hands with soap and water for at least 20 seconds. Follow these five steps—wet, lather (make bubbles), scrub (rub together), rinse and dry. You can sing the “Happy Birthday” song twice.
  • If you don’t have soap and water, have an adult help you use a special hand cleaner.
  • Keep things clean. Older children can help adults at home and school clean the things we touch the most, like desks, doorknobs, light switches, and remote controls. (Note for adults: you can find more information about cleaning and disinfecting on CDC’s website.)
  • If you feel sick, stay home. Just like you don’t want to get other people’s germs in your body, other people don’t want to get your germs either.

These are challenging times for us all.  Parents are wearing many hats right now, caring for ourselves,  our children and teaching schoolwork. Children respond well to routine, try to keep your days as close to normal as you can.

  • Wake up routines:  eat breakfast, change into clothes, brush teeth
  • Schoolwork/remote learning every weekday until lunch
  • Get up and move around/exercise several times a day
  • Limit screen time
  • Cook dinner together
  • Play board games or cards
  • Bedtime as usual (keep the same bedtime as you would any other time)

Make the most of the time you have with your family!
